The Super Bowl Commercials That Made Us Laugh, Cry and Cringe

by Lauren Tivnan on February 8, 2018

Whether you were a Patriots or an Eagles fan, this year’s Super Bowl was one for the record books. And today, I’m tuning into the parade because I’m glad the Eagles won. (I’ll admit it, I love a good under dog story–who doesn’t?)

While I’m not a huge football fan, I happened to be in Philadelphia for the game, and I watched it in a household split right down the middle in their fanatical love for the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. Yes, watching the game was awkward at times. But what really united all of the fans in the room? The Super Bowl commercials.

This year’s broadcast presented ┬ámarketers with the golden ticket to reach an unprecedented number of consumers. And that’s exactly why Fox was able to charge an estimated $5 million for a 30-second spot. (For comparison, a 30-second ad that ran in Game 7 of the World Series came costed only about $500,000.)

Now that the parade has begun in the City of Brotherly Love, let’s look back and see which commercials provided advertisers with the most yardage this year. From Morgan Freeman rapping with Peter Dinklage to Danny DeVito dressed as an M&M, here’s a list from AdAge that made us laugh, cry and cringe.
